Detail of Shiwan restoration (video)

Just a quick little video for you complete with bad narration, hope you enjoy.

I was adding the crack detailing with a 9 hair sable brush, hand cramps every 10 minutes. It wasn't exactly easy work but the end results came out really nice. I layered the cracks via building up layers of transparency with clear gloss to give a 3D effect to match as best the other areas of original glaze.

Progression of Shiwan pottery figurine (thumb replacement and fan adjustment)

David Johnston is a member of the International Shiwan Ceramics Association and has recently entrusted me with the repairs of 4 figurines that have had various repairs done over the last few years. The pieces have been varied, some have been repaired with lacquer, some with modern epoxies but mostly have been sub standard repairs that he wanted rectified so he could photograph them for upcoming catalogues that you can see here,

A quick bit of home surgery

Basic epoxy putty replacement that needs final
sculpting

Finalised sculpting and sanding (thumb is approx 9mm)

Textural build and colour match for final resting place of thumb,
I personally like the detail that he has his nail in the groove of the
fan.

The final restoration. Matched texture, colour and
gloss. The figure itself is of Zhong Gui (I think)
